Industrial hemp has thousands of years of history helping the human race which was abruptly halted at the beginning of the 20th century. As it has recently become legal again to grow, hemp looms as a true ‘game changer’ as it can be made into better versions of an incredible array of products including, fuel, food, medicine, paper, plastic, clothing, construction materials, and many more.
Hemp is the perfect example of a product that is nature based, renewable, good for the environment, provides a multitude of base living essentials, and creates a viable income stream.
There is currently a lack of processing facilities for taking the harvested hemp and separating its main components for use. Each part of the plant is used for different products such as the seeds, stems, and flowers, so processing requires different machines for each part of the plant. As a recently legalised crop, most farmers do not have sufficient information to understand why they should grow hemp and consequently there is currently a shortage of hemp raw materials where the demand is. China has been growing hemp for over 3000 years and is the global super power in hemp production, however the demand for hemp products is mostly elsewhere, and to make a truly sustainable process, the hemp should be grow where it is processed and products are produced. Hemp Town will provide this holistic solution. In addition, Hemp Town will be a beacon for hemp education furthering interest and take up by the local farming community.
Realistically, Hemp Town most likely will not be able to produce all the hemp required for its hemp product needs, so local farm uptake in growing hemp is part of the overall vision. Our processing facilities will be mobile, so they can be driven to local farms to process their hemp on the spot. The more farmers growing hemp, the more benefits there will be to the larger community.
Due to the last century of prohibition, there has been a lack of research into developing the long list of world beating products that can be made from hemp. Hemp Town will have its own R&D facilities to advance the most promising of these hemp based inventions. The top of the list will be hemp based plastic and paper alternatives. These alone have the potential to solve the world’s plastic and deforestation problems. Do not underestimate the cost of cutting down trees to make paper and construction materials. Our forests have been the ‘lungs’ of the earth for millennia, and human’s do not need to cut them down to fulfil many of the needs they are currently providing. Timber is beautiful and has a powerful energy when used in construction, however it does not need to do the ‘heavy lifting’ that it currently does. Hemp can potentially replace timber for the bulk of its current construction uses.
